My sister requested a rainbow felted ball mobile for her newborn a few years back. She had seen one on Etsy and wanted me to duplicate it. Not very hard at all, especially when you have (like I do) a large supply of roving. And, some grapevines for the wreath. I only just recently had a chance to take a picture of this mobile when I visited my sister this past weekend (I made this before I was blogging and taking pictures of *everything*). :-) I wish I could find the link on Etsy that I based this on, but it was so long ago and I couldn't find a product that resembles it.
To figure out how to make a felted ball, check out my first blogging post EVER. I just colored the roving to make a soft rainbow palette. If you decide you'd like to imitate this, be sure that you attach the string tightly and keep the mobile way out of the babies reach. I would label this as a not-so-child-friendly-mobile.....it's beautiful to look at by not safe for playing with.
I linked this up to these fantastic parties:
What a wonderful gift idea. I'll have to remember that for the next baby gift. Duh! I can felt now..and I am sick of knitting gifts for people who don't appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteVery cute idea. Lots of baby showers coming up. Thanks for the ideas.

It's beautiful! I really love the natural look you created as opposed to the all-plastic, neon-crazy mobiles at the store.
