(Don't forget to link up to my Marvelous Mess party....I will be picking one project to feature on my sidebar for a week!!)
When I was in Junior High I made some wax figures for an English project. I remembered that the other day and thought.....why not make some eggs out wax for Easter?!?! So I did. Here's what you need to make them for yourself/someone else:
Paraffin wax
Tin Foil
Crayon Pieces
Pan
~Put a block of paraffin max on a large piece of tinfoil and push it into a pan. You are not going to want the melted wax to get on the pan, so make sure the tinfoil is bowled a bit, leaving a nice spot of the wax to melt.
~Turn the oven on LOW HEAT. Wax will catch fire on med/high heat and believe me, you don't want that AT ALL. :-) That's not good. You just want the wax to melt slowly.
~Add some pieces of a crayon in a color you'd like the egg to be. One paraffin block is going to make a couple of eggs. Let the crayon melt and stir the wax with a spoon (try not to scrape against the tin foil...you don't it to crack!!).
~Once everything is melted, remove it from the stove top and take the tin foil carefully out of the pan.
~Let it cool for a minute or two and then start scraping it into a pile.
~Once the pile is cool enough for you to handle, take a bunch and make it into an egg shape in your hands. It takes a bit of work, but it's not ridiculous. Just pack and smooth it. Over and over. :-)
That's it!!
Whaddya think of the variety? I'm loving them all.
And, I've got the perfect little pedestal (made from a wooden candle stick, a bowl, and some wood glue) for holding them :
Thanks for visiting!!

ReplyDeleteThese are really cute. Love that they're made out of wax. I bet you could add fragrance oil, and they'd smell so good.
